Newborn Hearing Screening Program
The Audiology clinic at Ahmadi hospital is the one of the first to establish a Universal New Born Hearing Screening (UNHS) program in Kuwait and the Middle East. Since 2006, every baby born in the hospital is scheduled for a hearing screening which includes BERA, DPOAEs and tympanometry, if required.
A study done at the audiology clinic in 2006 (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17918507) showed a high percentage of permanent hearing loss among newborns in Ahmadi hospital. The results warrant the need of the establishment of Universal Newborn Hearing Screening program in Kuwait and other Middle East countries.
Presently, the program is being successfully conducted. Scientific papers and booklets have also been written in an effort towards continued successful advancement for the program. Fusce euismod consequat ante.
